Gubbio

A wiew of one of Umbria' most characteristic cities located  on the edge of a sweeping plain at the foot of Mount Ingino.
The city still conserves all its medieval charm where we are Palazzo dei Consoli of 14th century and Piazza della Signoria one of the most famous suspended square.

It is organised by the Brotherhood of S. Croce and it is a symbolic representationof the drama of Christ's Passion.
The brethren,dressed in white doublets and hooded, walk in the medieval streets together the choirs of the "Miserere" sing music htat has been passed down orally through time.

The race of the Ceri
15 May

The race of Ceri takes place yearly on May 15th the eve of  the festival of the Patron Saint of the town,Ubaldo.
The Ceri are three tall ,heavy ,wooden constructins,richly decorated and surmonted by the statues of St. Ubaldo, St.George and St.Anthony.
They are fixed on a stretcher-like  wooden support which   "ceraioli" carry on their shoulders in a mad race through the steets of the town, and as far as the Basilica of the Patron Saint, Ubaldo, on the top of Mount Ingino.


Crossbow competition
Last Sunday of May

The archers of Gubbio  and those of San Sepolcro,who wear ancient costumes, meet every year in Piazza Grande.
The competition consists in hitting the bull'seye of a target 36 meters away.
The archer who hits the bull's eye of the target wins a beautifull standard and his name is Palio.


The biggest Christmas Tree in the world
December

Gubbio boasts the world's biggest Christmas Tree,a Guinness Book record.
A "luminous decoration" covering an entire slope of the Mount Ingino is lit up on December 7 and brightens the nighs untill January 10.
